My Family of five are coming from Las Vegas, Nevada to Westfest Sept.4,2010. My Mother Slay and Grandmother Holup & their familys were raised in West and are Czech. So this will be a great time for us to be Around Czechoslovakian cultural. We will also be visiting St. Mary Cemetery. Where 16 family members are buried. And Bold Spring Cemetery where seven are buried.

Heading over there in about an hour! My great uncle, Mike Wisniewski, was in a Bavarian Polka band in Cleveland, Ohio back in the 40's - 60's. He'd have loved to be making this trip today! My dad had a friend named Bruzda in Streetsboro, Ohio, back in the 60's. I see the Bruzda name here among the guests. Cool. I wish Big Chuck from Cleveland could be at West Fest! Look him up and bring him down next year!!!

What a great festival! I was there the very first year when Westfest was created. It rained and not very many people attended. Years ago you could actually dance under the tents instead of playing bumper cars...it has grown so much.But the good food, music, friends make it all worth while and I have not missed a year. We will try the RV across from the grounds this year and continue to attend Friday - Sunday. Looking forward to it.

I have heard the Kuchera polka bands on Vrazels Sunday polka music. I am wondering if a Jerry Kuchera is a long lost relative. My grandfathers brother, Jerry went to the U.S.A. when they came to Canada. No one has heard from him since. I just wonder if Jerry is grandpas' brother. I Love Polka Music!! My Grandfather was a German man who lived in Lancaster, Pennsylvania during World War II. I have always thought of Polka music as being part of my Heritage. My son Michael and I will be attending the Westfest this year offering some Great PONY PAL Children's SWINGS. They are a Quality item built to last several Generations. I am super excited about Westfest this year. I cant wait to Polka dance all day and night with my friend Benko, but im also excited to sample the different kinds of Kolaches. Wish I could be there to enjoy your festival. When I was in my early twenties living in Seattle, Washington we young people used to go to a local private dancing hall where Polka and other wonderful dances and great live authentic music gave us insight into another culture. So much fun!

We would not miss this festival. We dance most weekends in Texas and other states. You can see us dancing on TV at the Big Joes Polka show on RFD TV.

I am looking forward to being at the westfest and enjoy everything, especially the music, dancing, food and beer. The first time I went was about 33 years ago. I've been learning to play the guitar for 48 years and ten other musical instruments including the saxophone and accordian since 1965. I learned of your town and the Czech Heritage due to my husband driving a truck and staying there overnight. I've browsed through your website and it's very, very interesting. I was born in Prague OK. I am very proud of my Czech Heritage and find it interesting the more I find other Czech towns and their stories. I'm currently working on our family tree and have searched Ellis Island and Port of Entry in Galveston, TX to find my great-grandfather. My grandparents were 100% Czech, have a wonderful memory of Kolache baking and eating Klobase & Sauerkraut. My favorite Kolache is "Poppy Seed." This is wonderful! I am proud to say I am a melting pot of the German and Czech geneologies. My grandmother informed me about this fantastic gathering. I can't wait to be there in the swing of all things. I have a question though in reguards to the Czech passenger lists. This is such an opprotunity to trace our roots. I am part Czech and part Italian. My grandparents on my Dad's side came from Czechoslavakia in the 1920's. I enjoyed the website, the music and all the pictures. I live in west, southern Illinois and moved here about 14 years ago from Pennsylvania. My six children live nearby and their Dad. Hoping St. Louis, gets their website completed for their celebration in November of this year, cause I'd like to go and bring my children. My Dad taught me the polka as a little girl and I can remember hearing them speak Czech although I can't understand a word of it. The other side (my Italian grandparents) spoke Italian. Wonderful memories and glad to be Czech!!!!

I am a Slovakian citizen(currently living in Texas) and visited the festival in September 2003. I really enjoyed beeing there, however, I must say it was a little bit dissapointing to see the festival beeing presented only as Czech Fest( the emigrants were Czech,Slovaks and Moravians,therefore I can't see why it has become Czech's own.Especially considering many Slovaks have large family and many friends in Czech Republic- my case; or vice versa).I really don't mean to be critical,but
another thing I noticed - apart from sausages,sauerkraut and kolaches there was no czechoslovakian food. Whatever happened to good old schnitzels,roast pork,dumplings,potato salad....etc.By the way, potato pancakes tasted nothing like czechoslovakian ones.It was good to see big choice of different kinds of beer,although once again - no czech or slovak beer!Anyway, I still had fun and will certainly come again next year. My grandmother and great grandmother came there from the old

I was in Africa and Europe for a while. I just moved to the USA last January. My mother is from Czech Republic and part of my family is still there (Brno). I am visiting them on a regular basis - once every two years.
I definitely miss the Czecho-moravian food and will stop to West as soon as I have an opportunity !!!

I was in the West sometime back in 1989 visiting Nemecek's sausages and have spoke in the area to some older lady, a teacher of the Czech language. I had a great time there amongst the 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. generation Czechs or Czecho-Slovaks. Please, keep the Czech and Moravian traditions in the U.S., and NEVER let them go away!
